Year-round, with region and state conferences in winter and spring

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is a career and technical student organization for middle and high school students in business programs. It combines leadership, service and business competitive events.

What FBLA is

  • A student organization tied to business classes. GCPS describes FBLA as an important part of the business instructional program.
  • Members compete in business events — tests, presentations, role-plays and projects — and serve in chapter, region and state leadership roles.
  • Georgia FBLA has separate middle school and high school competitive events and conferences.
  • GCPS says Georgia FBLA is the largest FBLA state chapter in the nation.

What FBLA is not

  • Not a general business club with no class link. Membership is usually tied to taking a business course — ask how your child's school handles it.
  • Not the same as DECA, which focuses on marketing, finance, hospitality and entrepreneurship.
  • Not only competitions. Many members join for leadership, service and conferences.
  • Not a GCPS-run league. Georgia FBLA sets the conferences and events.

Who runs it

A business teacher advises the chapter. GCPS lists FBLA among its career and technical student organizations under CTAE (Career, Technical and Agricultural Education). Georgia FBLA runs region and state conferences, and the top finishers advance to national competition.

Season and calendar

Chapters meet through the school year. Georgia FBLA's Region Leadership Conferences are in January. The middle school State Leadership Conference is in February, and the high school State Leadership Conference is in March in Atlanta. Registration for region conferences opens in the fall, so students usually choose events before winter break. Confirm locally — the adviser sets deadlines and decides how events are assigned.

How kids get on FBLA

  • Ask whether your child must be enrolled in a business course to join.
  • Ask about dues, conference registration and travel costs.
  • Ask how students pick competitive events and when entries are due.
  • Ask how many students the chapter takes to region and state.
  • Ask about officer roles if your child wants leadership experience.

A teacher or school sponsor runs the group. Not every GCPS school offers this, and availability changes year to year — confirm at your child's school before you plan around it.

Who sponsors this at your child's school is a school question. Ask the front office, the counselor, or the teacher who runs the group. GCPS Insider does not keep a live sponsor list and cannot tell you who the coach is. Please do not email us to find a sponsor, meeting time, or roster.

Questions to ask the school

  1. Does my child need to be in a business class to join FBLA?
  2. What are dues and conference costs, and who covers them?
  3. How are competitive events chosen, and when are entries due?
  4. Who goes to the region conference, and how does a student advance to state?
  5. When does the chapter meet, and how are officers elected?

Schools we have seen list FBLA

This list is incomplete on purpose and is not a directory. We only list what we have actually seen a school publish, so a school missing here may still run the program — and a school listed here can drop it.

Still verifying. We have not published a FBLA school list yet and we will not invent a count. Browse the schools directory and check a school's own page, and tell us what your school offers — that link is for adding a school, not for asking who the sponsor is.
